Report Unlicensed Practice

The unlicensed practice of Opticianry in New Jersey is Illegal. It effects are far reaching to the consumer, The Ophthalmic profession and the Ophthalmic Schools. Opticians are health care providers that posses the necessary education, testing and continued educational requirements to professionally evaluate, fit, fabricate and dispense eyewear.

When any of these procedures are completed by someone other than an Optician, registered technician or apprentice it clearly violates the law. Take responsibility for unlicensed practice that occurs in your office or work place. Whether you are the license in charge or simply employed in an environment that supports the hiring and employment of unlicensed individuals it becomes your problem.

You have 2 options to report unlicensed practice.

  1. Notify the State Board in writing.
  2. Notify the OANJ. We keep your information confidential and follow through immediately with your complaint. Email your information to info@oanj.org, or mail it directly to the OANJ [414 River View Plaza, trenton, NJ 08611-3420].
