OANJ Norman A. Snedeker Scholarship Foundation Student Application

Primary award criteria

• Financial need

• Academic achievement where the minimum optical grade point average (GPA) is 3.0 on a 4.0 scale verified by official transcripts

• Work history

• Student essays

• Demonstrated leadership

• Participation in specific activities

• Awards and recognition

• Personal or family attributes

 

Eligible applicants

• All students currently attending an optical program in New Jersey with a minimum optical GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale verified by official transcripts

• Demographic restrictions

• Student can be part time or full time with full time attendance granted precedence

Please click on the link below to apply for the scholarship. The deadline to apply is September 15th, 2024.  

All recipients of the Norman A. Snedeker Scholarship award must continue in their academic studies to ensure that the full amount of the scholarship is applied to the student’s optical science education.  Any recipients who do not continue in their course of study must return the award in full to the Scholarship fund.

Meet Your OANJ Board Member

Name & Position: Judy Quinones – Board Member, serving on the Continuing Education Committee.

Practice Location: Bridgewater

Any Additional and/or Clinical Roles: NJ licensed optician, economist, writer, speaker, and educator.

Hobbies: Traveling, cooking, photography, leading projects, and volunteering. I also enjoy networking, facilitating discussions, and advocating for causes I believe in.

Fun Facts: I love learning new skills, and one of the wildest was signing up for a parachuting course. After just two ground lessons, I completed three solo jumps from a small plane to graduate. It was by far the most terrifying yet thrilling experience I’ve had. I also have a passion for learning languages. I speak Spanish, French, Italian, and I’m currently working on German.

The Division of Consumer Affairs is urging our licensees to be on alert for new scams targeting healthcare professionals and possibly others. The Division has received information that impersonators are reaching out to licensees about fraudulent activity related to their practicing credentials, or about alleged disciplinary action or criminal charges against them.
