Thank you for choosing the Opticians Association of New Jersey (OANJ). We would like to take this time to extend an invitation to you to become one of our newest members. As a constituent of OANJ, the privileges and rewards of membership will be available to you. OANJ is committed to promoting awareness and understanding of the profession. We are continually working to increase our public standing so that we may take a leadership role in the profession. Part of this task is via our advocacy efforts. OANJ makes sure that legislators hear OANJ's positions on all matters affecting your profession.

Our organization emphasizes the importance of continuing education and we offer courses specifically tailored to the needs of our members. Members receive DISCOUNTED attendance at our State-approved continuing education classes. OANJ records CE activities for all participants at our events and as a service to our members, you will also receive validation to provide the state to renew your license (non-members pay $50 for this service!).

As we continue to look for new and innovative ways to show our appreciation for our members, we’ve partnered with TicketsatWork to provide you a new discounts benefit. It’s cost-free and simple to enroll, and will provide you access to savings on movies, hotels, shows, concerts, theme parks, sporting events and more. Members should contact the OANJ office to Enroll in this exciting program.

Who Is OANJ?

  • Volunteer run organization with support staff
  • We are not the State Board
  • Our Mission: Promote and protect the profession of Opticianry through education, leadership and professionalism for you the licensed optician and the patients we serve.

What Do I Get?

  • Professional firm that runs the association, manages our continuing education conferences, and provides lobbying services
  • Maintain records of your CEU credits supplied by OANJ
  • Job bank – post a position or apply for one
  • Affinity discount programs
  • Strength in numbers

Why Should I Care?

  • It was the OANJ that lobbied to add us into the “Closely Allied Health Professional” which gave us a prized status to increase our value and allow us more flexibility to own businesses
  • We speak out against unlicensed practice and ward off threats to confirm a good wage
    • Technology
    • Unlicensed personnel doing our job
    • Trend toward de-licensure
      • Optician wages in unlicensed states
      • Retailers looking to save money

What Is It Worth To Me?

  • Membership in the OANJ costs less than $1 a week when compared to the costs of education credits alone
  • Would you pay $1 a week (2.5 cents per hour worked) towards a professional organization that is protecting your license, your occupation, and your ability to earn?
  • Our lobbyists in Trenton review all introduced legislation to determine its impact on our profession and prevent others from looking to weaken our role in the healthcare field
