Norman A. Snedeker Scholarship
Who was Norman Snedeker?
Norman A. Snedeker was a partner in Snedeker and Ambrose, an optical practice in Newark, NJ for many, many years. Their office was also a NJ guild optician office. Norman was a very active optician in the state. Among his many accomplishments, he was a huge proponent for establishing licensure in New Jersey. In fact, he was frequently in Trenton doing the lobbying himself! Norman was also a founding member of the Opticians Association of New Jersey (OANJ) and we all owe him a debt of gratitude for his groundbreaking efforts. Upon his death, Norman left a significant amount of money to the OANJ for the express purpose of establishing optical scholarships for the students in this state. If selected, you will receive a check for $500 that you can use toward your optician education journey.
Scholarship Applications
To be eligible for The Norman A. Snedeker Scholarship, applicant must have completed their first year of classes. While applications are accepted year-round, the scholarship committee will be reviewing applications until September 15, 2026. Students who have applied will be notified on late September whether they have received a scholarship.
